Mussels in Garlic Butter and Wine Sauce

Equipment

  • Large Sauce Pot/Dutch Oven/Casserole

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Fresh Mussels (cleaned and debeared)
  • 4 TBS Butter
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 cup Dry White Wine
  • 1/2 tsp Crushed Red Pepper (optional)
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste
  • Fresh Parsley for Garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant but not browned.
  • Add the white wine to the pot and bring it to a simmer.
  • Add the cleaned mussels to the pot and stir gently to coat them in the garlic butter and wine sauce.
  • Cover the pot and let the mussels steam for 5-7 minutes, or until they have opened. Discard any mussels that do not open.
  • Season the mussels with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the mussels in bowls with some of the garlic butter and wine sauce poured over the top.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Notes

 
Note: Be sure to discard any mussels that do not open during cooking, as they may be unsafe to eat. Also, make sure to thoroughly clean and debeard the mussels before cooking by scrubbing them under cold water and removing any beards (fibrous threads) attached to the shells.
